Jing refers to our intrinsic body energy. We are born with a certain level of energy and maintain this energy in our daily life. Just like a car battery, however, if we do certain things - like leave the lights on - the energy will be expended faster. Our physical body energy is finite.
We can use the dance and moving meditation to explore our own physical energy levels. We practice balancing and becoming aware of how we expend our energy. Do we expend too much too fast and then have to sit out half of the dance? Do we expend too little energy and never really get going, feeling like we haven't even danced after an hour? Our dance practice illuminates what often is present in our life, thereby giving us an opportunity to play with balancing our energy - noticing what it takes to physically dance but not expend all our energy or expend too little.
We practice smooth sustained motions such as floating, pulling, swaying and sharp sudden motions such as kicks, chops and dodges. We notice which energies we are comfortable dancing and which we may be more unfamiliar with or have challenges around. Dancing different energies allows us to increase awareness around ways we use our energy, ways we resist and what we give our power to. Power being the ability to utilize our energy. Often our energy is used up in such things as distraction, waiting, fear, overwhelm and anxiety. Moving with these as a dance can illuminate ways to increase our power.
